Accessibility and language assistance
Extra help is available for people with disability or language difficulties who are asked to take part in the Census Coverage Survey (CCS).
Disability arrangements
CCS interviewers will complete the forms on the householder’s behalf and guide them through the answers to the questions. If the householder is alone and wants someone to be with them for the interview, the interviewer will arrange to call back at a convenient time when someone else is there.
Help with English language
If the householder's first language is not English, CCS interviewers will offer to carry out the interview with the help of an English speaking member of the household as an interpreter. If this is not possible, the interviewer will show a language identification card and ask the householder to point to their language. The interviewer will then arrange to call back and conduct the interview with the help of an interpretation service.
Welsh language
In Wales, Welsh speaking interviewers will be recruited to assist Welsh speakers during interviews. They will have a bi-lingual show card listing the answers to the CCS questions. A Welsh language helpline is also available.
