Local authority land and property gazetteer (LLPG) custodians

The 2011 Census will work best if we have a complete and accurate address register for the whole of England and Wales because, this time, around 95% of questionnaires will be sent by post.

To make sure as many households as possible get a postal census questionnaire, we are developing an address register with the help of local authorities through comparisons of the National Land and Property Gazetteer (NLPG) and the Royal Mail and Ordnance Survey national address products.

In particular, we are asking all local authorities to look at improving the quality of their local address lists and local land and property gazetteers leading up to the 2011 Census. This section of the website contains guidance and further information to help you do this.
