Local authorities

Census population statistics have a direct bearing on the government support your local authority receives to fund public services: their accuracy depends on getting the highest possible response rates in all local authority areas and community groups.

So we need your help to make the 2011 Census a success.

Your local knowledge and understanding could make a big difference to how people feel about and respond to the census, especially in certain areas of the country and among different population groups. In 2001, response rates in local authority areas varied between 64% and 99% and we know that some population groups will require extra support and encouragement to complete the census questionnaire in 2011.

To help you make local people more aware of how the census affects them and why it is so important for them to take part, we have put together a package of online guidance, toolkits and further information to support you right up to Census Day on 27 March 2011.
